The trial of Sinan Ateş murder case begins tomorrow! 22 defendants will appear before the judge.

The trial of 22 defendants related to the death of Ateş, who was killed in an armed attack in Ankara on December 30, 2022, will be held tomorrow in front of the Ankara 32nd Heavy Penal Court. The trial, which will take place in the courtroom at Sincan Penal Execution Institutions Campus, will last for 5 days.

In Ankara, the first hearing in the case of the murder of Dr. Sinan Ateş, former President of the Ülkü Ocakları Education and Culture Foundation and Associate Professor at Hacettepe University, will be held tomorrow. CHP leader Özgür Özel will also attend the hearing, which is expected to have a high attendance.

CHP LEADER ÖZEL TO ATTEND THE HEARING

It is expected that representatives of political parties, as well as the Ateş family, will attend the hearing. CHP leader Özgür Özel announced that he will attend the hearing, and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli stated that the party's lawyers will follow the case.

FILES OF 17 SUSPECTS SEPARATED

The investigation into the murder of Sinan Ateş is ongoing separately for the other 17 individuals who have been banned from leaving the country.

INDICTMENT ACCEPTED IN MAY

The indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding Ateş, who was attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle while leaving a building in Kızılırmak Neighborhood, Çankaya district, with his friend Selman Bozkurt on December 30, 2022, and died in the hospital, was accepted by the court in May.

TRIGGERMAN ÖZYAĞCI TO BE TRIED FOR PREMEDITATED MURDER

In the indictment, which includes 22 defendants with Ayşe Ateş, Sinan Ateş's wife, and Selman Bozkurt, who was with them during the incident, as "victims," the defendants Eray Özyağci, Vedat Balkaya, and Suat Kurt, who are listed as "joint perpetrators," are requested to be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "premeditated murder," and Doğukan Çep and Tolgahan Demirbaş are requested to be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for inciting the murder. Özyağci is also requested to be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for "possession and carrying of an unlicensed firearm," and Demirbaş is requested to be sentenced to 3 to 7 years in prison for "illegally obtaining personal data in a chain manner."

PERSONS ALLEGED TO HAVE AIDED THE CRIME

In the indictment, it is stated that the other defendants, Zekeriya Asarkaya, Hakan Saraç, Ufuk Köktürk, Mehmet Yüce, Mustafa Uzunlar, Aşkın Mert Gelenbey, Murat Can Çolak, Osman Bayraktar, Caner Güney, Umut Ersoy, Çağlar Zorlu, Aytaç Ataç, Emre Yüksel, Serdar Öktem, Erdem Karadeniz, Alper Atay, Mustafa Ensar Aykal, should be punished for "aiding and abetting a crime committed in participation."

17 DEFENDANTS ON TRIAL FOR UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON

While 17 defendants are facing imprisonment of 15 to 20 years for "aiding premeditated murder," former chief of the homicide bureau Aykal is also requested to be sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison for abusing the authority granted by his public duty and illegally obtaining personal information about the victim.
