The US and Israel are reportedly preparing to conduct their heaviest air attack to date on Iran's energy infrastructure this weekend. US President Donald Trump's statement from July, 'I will leave energy targets for last, but in the end, we will hit them too,' has come back into the spotlight.
Some US and Israeli sources speaking to the US television network CBS News claimed that there would be attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure over the weekend.
"WILL BE THE HARSHEST ATTACK TO DATE"
The sources alleged that the US and Israel are planning "one of the harshest bombing campaigns to date" against energy infrastructure targets in Iran this weekend.
US sources, stating that Israeli authorities have been informed about the attacks in question and are in coordination with the US, noted that US President Donald Trump has not given a final order on the matter.
The sources claimed that the issue came up during the US administration's cabinet meeting at Camp David, but some White House officials "vehemently" opposed it, and alleged that the possible attack would likely target energy infrastructure, including power plants and refineries.
NETANYAHU MET WITH TRUMP
An Israeli source suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Trump earlier this week, mentioned 3 options for war with Iran, including military strikes focusing on ground supply routes.
Another US official also said the Washington administration had already struck bridges used for both military and civilian purposes in this conflict.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in a statement to CBS News on the matter, said, "As President Trump said at today's cabinet meeting, America will win, and Iran will not have a nuclear weapon during his term."
TRUMP GAVE THE ORDER
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal newspaper brought up a striking claim. According to the report based on government sources; it was reported that US President Donald Trump has ordered the launch of a new multi-day wave of strikes against Iran to force the Tehran administration into an agreement. It was stated that the new US strikes could begin as of this weekend.
TRUMP'S INFRASTRUCTURE THREAT
In a statement in mid-July, Trump had said, "I will leave energy targets for last, but in the end we will hit them too. We will strike very hard tonight, tomorrow night, and the night after. Next week will be much worse for them. Because next week, it will be the turn of power plants and bridges. If they don't come to the negotiating table, we will disable all their power plants and bridges."
In response, the Spokesman for the Iranian General Staff, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, had stated that if an attack were carried out on Iran's infrastructure, all infrastructure in the region would be targeted.
