Duden Waterfall, which has been a scene for some old Turkish movies in Antalya, is attracting a large number of visitors despite the decreasing water level. Especially during the summer months, more than 5,000 people enter the waterfall daily, and since January, the number of visitors has exceeded 600,000.

The Düden Waterfall, one of the iconic places of the tourism city Antalya, continues to attract visitors despite the decrease in water. The waterfall, where some scenes of Yeşilçam films such as 'Severek Ayrılalım' starring Hülya Koçyiğit and Cüneyt Arkın, 'Çeşme' starring Ferdi Tayfur and Necla Nazır, 'Karaoğlan-Kayıp Hazine' starring Kartal Tibet, Zeki Alasya and Ahmet Mekin, and 'Kader Bağlayınca' starring Ediz Hun, Zuhal Aktan, Ahmet Mekin, and Aliye Rona were shot, offers its visitors the opportunity to escape from the heat to some extent with its water falling from a height of about 38 meters, surrounded by centuries-old trees, walking paths, and resting areas.

"DECREASE IS DUE TO USAGE AND DROUGHT"

Especially during the summer months, the waterfall, which is visited by 5,000-5,500 people per day, has reached more than 600,000 visitors since January. The target for 2024 at Düden Waterfall, which reached 1 million visitors in 2023, is to exceed 1 million visitors. Süleyman Yavuz, the responsible of Düden Waterfall, stated that there is a decrease in the water of the waterfall due to both usage and drought, saying "This decrease is due to both usage and drought. There is excessive and uncontrolled usage. There are decreases in both underground and spring waters due to wild irrigation and pumping the water afterwards."

"TOURISTS FROM FRANCE, GERMANY, AND INDIA ARE INTENSE"

Yavuz stated that there is a density of visitors from Europe and Arab countries among those who visit the waterfall, saying "We have intense tourists from France, Germany, and India. We also have tourists from Arab countries. We have a high density because we are in the season. Our number of visitors varies on weekdays and weekends, and the average daily number of local and foreign tourists is between 5,000 and 6,000. Our density increases a bit on weekends." Yavuz, who reminded that Düden Waterfall was a scene for Yeşilçam films in previous years, said, "Our elderly citizens come here knowing that some films were shot here. They try to enter the atmosphere of those films by seeing and watching them."

THE PLACE WHERE ALEXANDER THE GREAT WATERED HIS HORSES

Düden Waterfall, also known as 'Alexander Waterfall', is also known as the place where Alexander the Great, who conquered Pamphylia in 334-333 BC, watered his horses while passing through this region. The area where the waterfall is located was turned into a picnic and recreation area by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) between 1970 and 1972.
