The Turkey İş Bank 47th Istanbul Marathon, the only marathon in the world that spans two continents, was held. The marathon, which was also attended by CHP leader Özgür Özel, was won by Kenyan athlete Rhonzas Lokitam Kilimo in the men's category and Ethiopian athlete Bizuager Aderra in the women's category. The winners will receive a cash prize of $50,000 each (2 million 103 thousand TL).

The start of the marathon was given by Özgür Özel, the Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Nuri Aslan, the Deputy Mayor of Istanbul, Ahmet Karadağ, the President of the Turkish Athletics Federation, Prof. Dr. Bilge Donuk, the General Manager of Spor Istanbul, and protocol members.

43 ELITE ATHLETES FROM 4 DIFFERENT CONTINENTS



While 43 elite athletes from 4 different continents competed in the marathon, last year's champion Dejene Debela, along with Rhonzas Lokitam Kilimo and Denis Chirchir in the men's category, and athletes such as Sofia Assefa, Tigst Getnet, and Yenenesh Tilahun Dinkesa in the women's category also participated in the race. In addition to the 42 kilometers, there will also be a 15.5-kilometer race, a Corporate Run, and a Public Run in the Istanbul Marathon.

50 THOUSAND DOLLARS REWARD FOR WINNERS



In the 47th Istanbul Marathon, male and female athletes who place will receive equal cash prizes.



A total of 190 thousand dollars will be distributed as prizes in the 42-kilometer category. If a course record is broken, a bonus of 5 thousand dollars will be awarded.



In the organization, first place winners will receive 50 thousand, second place 20 thousand, third place 10 thousand, fourth place 5 thousand, fifth place 4 thousand, sixth place 3 thousand, seventh place 2 thousand, and eighth place 1 thousand dollars.



There will also be a separate cash prize distribution for local athletes. A total of 400 thousand lira will be distributed as cash prizes to Turkish athletes who finish in the top 5 in both women's and men's categories.

In the top five finishers among women and men, first place will receive 60 thousand, second place 50 thousand, third place 40 thousand, fourth place 30 thousand, and fifth place 20 thousand lira.



In the wheelchair category of the marathon, the top four athletes will receive cash prizes of 30 thousand, 25 thousand, 20 thousand, and 15 thousand lira, respectively. Cash prizes will also be awarded to those who place in the age groups of 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, and 85 and above.



Considering all categories, a total of 9.5 million lira will be distributed as cash prizes in the organization.

COURSE



The starting point of the 47th Istanbul Marathon was the entrance of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge on the Anatolian side.



Athletes running in the 42-kilometer category will descend to Beşiktaş from the entrance of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge on the Anatolian side and will reach the Galata Bridge by following the coastal route. After crossing the bridge, the runners will turn towards Sirkeci and proceed along Kennedy Avenue to the coastal road, passing through Sirkeci, Cankurtaran, Kumkapı, Yenikapı, Yedikule, Zeytinburnu, and Bakırköy, continuing until the vehicle evacuation gate of the Air Force Academy. Participants will make a U-turn here and return to Gülhane Park by following the coastal road. The race, which passes through the park, will end at Sultanahmet Square by following the tramway route.

In the 15.5-kilometer race, which was started in three separate groups, the runners will continue along the same route as the 42-kilometer race until Yenikapı, and the finish will be at Yenikapı.



In the Corporate Run and Public Run, participants will start running from the entrance of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge on the Anatolian side, follow Barbaros Boulevard to descend to the coast, and complete the race on the road between Tüpraş Stadium and Dolmabahçe Palace.

ROADS CLOSED



The course and connecting roads for the 47th Istanbul Marathon have been closed to vehicle traffic.



Starting from 03:00, the 15 July Martyrs Bridge was closed to traffic, and from 06:00, all course traffic, including the Eurasia Tunnel, was closed.



The 15 July Martyrs Bridge will reopen at 14:00, the Eurasia Tunnel at 15:00, and the entire course will reopen at 15:30.
