A travel influencer made headlines with footage recorded during a shark attack she experienced in the Maldives.

Lilian Tagliari was swimming with about 50 nurse sharks last month when one of the fish suddenly bit her right leg. In the footage, which has been viewed over 18 million times, Lilian can be seen screaming in pain underwater. Bite marks and blood are clearly visible on her leg.

Tagliari explained the reason for the attack: "There were about 50 sharks here, and I have been swimming in the same spot for years. Boats throw fish here, and because nurse sharks have very poor eyesight, one mistook my leg for a fish."

The young woman had to take antibiotics due to the risk of bacterial infection and experienced pain in her leg for several days. "We swam with them for about an hour. I had returned to the boat, but when the conditions improved, I said, 'I’ll do a few more dives.' Just then, a shark bit me," she said.

There are 30 different species of sharks living in the Maldives. Many hotels and resorts offer guided shark swimming experiences. Experts state that most of the sharks in the area are harmless, but they can be dangerous if necessary precautions are not taken.

According to National Geographic, nurse sharks, which can grow up to 4 meters long, are generally harmless to humans. However, they have thousands of small, serrated teeth and can bite defensively when disturbed.
