The worker purge that began at the CHP-run Tuzla Municipality in Istanbul has spread to CHP-run municipalities across Turkey. In the Buca district of Izmir, six workplace representatives from the DİSK General İş Izmir Branch 5 resigned from their positions in protest against a collective bargaining agreement that they claimed was signed without the knowledge of the workers.

Six workplace representatives working at DİSK Genel İş İzmir Branch 5, who reacted to the collective bargaining agreement signed in the Buca district of İzmir, resigned from their positions.

After failing to reach an agreement in collective bargaining negotiations between the General İş Union, affiliated with DİSK, and the Buca Municipality, union member workers went on strike on November 12.

On the second day of the strike, union representatives, Buca Municipality officials, and representatives from the Social Democratic Public Employers Union (SODEMSEN) came together and signed the Collective Bargaining Agreement (TİS), thereby ending the strike.

REACTION TO THE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

Claiming that the agreement was signed without the knowledge of the workers, the six workplace representatives at Buca Municipality, who are affiliated with DİSK Genel İş İzmir Branch, decided to resign from the union.

In a press statement organized by the workplace representatives, the following statements were made: After the police and security personnel assigned to the construction site stated that we would not be allowed into the site as if we had committed a crime, we thought it would be more appropriate to record a video here to express what we wanted to say there, so that none of our friends would be harmed. We have things to say against the collective agreement that was signed without consulting the workers and without informing anyone last night. We will clearly express our thoughts through a declaration, but before that, we would like to state that as six representatives, we are neither partners nor parties to this dirty agreement. We will not be. Therefore, we would like to announce that we are resigning from our duties as representatives of DİSK Genel İş Branch 5 as of this moment.
