The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has instructed all banks across Turkey to intensify inspections in the informal economy. Starting from January 1, 2025, it will be mandatory to present the source of funds with official documents for deposit and withdrawal transactions in banks.

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance is opening the door to a new era in the fight against the informal economy. Instructions have been sent to all banks to tighten controls on cash deposit and withdrawal transactions. Starting from January 1, 2025, it will be mandatory to prove the source of cash transactions in banks with official documents.

NEW REGULATION IN BANKS IN 2025

A new system will be implemented against the informal economy in 2025. Bank employees in all 81 provinces of Turkey will ask customers about the source of the cash and the purpose of its use during cash transactions.

OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS WILL BE MANDATORY

Islam Memiş, an expert on gold and currency markets, emphasized that the necessary documents should be kept ready during this process. Those who cannot present documents such as currency exchange receipts, gold sale invoices, or vehicle and property sale documents will be subject to detailed examination.

TRANSACTIONS WITH UNCLEAR SOURCES WILL BE PROHIBITED

Starting from January 1, 2025, transactions with unclear sources of money will not be allowed. Those who prepare their documents completely will not face any issues, while an investigation process will be initiated for those who provide incomplete or incorrect information.
