More than 80,000 spectators are expected for tonight's Mexico-South Africa opening match of the World Cup. Mexican fans were seen forming long queues in front of the stadium hours before the match.
The biggest festival of world football, the World Cup, officially kicks off this evening with the Mexico - South Africa match.
OPENING MATCH IN MEXICO CITY
The match, which will start on Thursday, June 11 at 22:00 Turkish time, will be played at Mexico City Stadium. The match will be broadcast live and free-to-air on TRT 1. The two teams previously faced each other in the opening match of the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
OVER 80 THOUSAND TICKETS SOLD OUT
According to released data, more than 80 thousand Mexican football fans, the host nation, are expected to take their places in the stands to witness the tournament's first match live. Mexican fans were seen forming long queues in front of the stadium hours before the match.
A FIRST WILL HAPPEN
Mexico City Stadium, which previously hosted the opening matches of the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, will open its doors for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first stadium to host three opening matches.
