In Greece, the Ministries of National Defense and Education have initiated a joint effort to establish a new 'National Defense University'.

JOINT CURRICULUM CREATION IS TARGETED

The National Defense University is planned to become operational in the 2026-2027 or 2027-2028 period. The aim of this initiative is to create a joint curriculum among military schools.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE COUNTRY HAS DECREASED

It is observed that the number of students entering military schools in the country has continuously decreased, especially after 2020, and that the number of students entering these schools in 2024 has dropped to 64% of the current capacity. With the newly structured system, it is planned to provide education not only in military fields but also in areas such as science and technology, and to allocate a 10% quota for vocational high school graduates.

BUDGET: 20 MILLION EUROS

It is also aimed to allocate a budget of approximately 20 million Euros for the general improvement of the conditions of military schools and to increase the financial support provided to students. Within the scope of the new structure, it is anticipated that doctoral programs will be made available in military higher education institutions and that doctoral research will also encompass defense industry technologies.
