After retiring from the Middle East Technical University, the famous scientist, Chemical Engineer Prof. Dr. Nihad Peynircioğlu, who settled in Bozcaada with his wife, received a phone call three months ago from a person who introduced himself as a MIT personnel. After stating his record, he said, "For a long time, money transfers have been occurring from your bank accounts to accounts linked to terrorism. You need to contribute to this operation. You must report all your assets in the bank and at home to us. If you have hidden assets, you will be considered guilty," and then hung up the phone. THEY MADE HIM LISTEN TO ATATÜRK'S SPEECH TO THE YOUTHLater, a person who introduced himself as a staff member of the Istanbul Police Department sent fake receipts to Peynircioğlu via WhatsApp, showing that money had been transferred to organization members. Subsequently, another person who introduced himself as a MIT personnel sent the professor old MIT operation footage and made him listen to Atatürk's speech to the youth while crying. WITHDREW 35 MILLION AND DELIVERED ITThe unfortunate professor, along with his wife, panicked. Following the suspect's instructions, he withdrew 15 million liras from the bank and delivered the money-filled bag to a person in Çanakkale Güzelyalı. During this time, he was still on the phone. The professor also withdrew 20 million from another account and sent it to the fraudsters. He then delivered it to a person waiting in the İntepe area according to the instructions. "WE WILL EXAMINE THE MONEY AND RETURN IT TO YOU"The fake MIT members told the 80-year-old chemical engineer, who delivered a total of 35 million TL by following their instructions, "We are approaching the end of the operation. Our work cannot accept the slightest mistake. We are also examining the account of your lawyer daughter. So do not mention anything to her. We will examine the money and return it to you. Your WhatsApp will always remain open. We will listen to your conversations." HE TOLD HIS LAWYER DAUGHTER AND RUSHED TO THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICEAfter a while, noticing that the money had not been returned, the professor told his lawyer daughter about his experiences and realized he had been defrauded. He filed a complaint with the Çanakkale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The police, examining the city entrance and exit cameras, identified the individuals who defrauded the famous professor as Mehmet Y., Abdulkadir K., and Halil E., who live in Urfa Akçakale and were preparing to defraud another professor. 10 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTEDAs a result of the investigation initiated by the prosecutor's office and months of surveillance, the operation was launched yesterday. A simultaneous operation was carried out against 11 suspects in Şanlıurfa, Akçakale, Ankara, Istanbul, and Diyarbakır. Within the scope of the operation, 10 people were detained. During the search of the suspects' homes, 200 thousand liras were seized. It was learned that one of the suspects, Ali E., was wanted. The investigation into the incident is ongoing in multiple directions.
