While the Assad regime was being overthrown, 1,905 soldiers who fled to Iraq were returned to Syria. A photo of the soldiers being handed over to the units affiliated with the New Syrian Government spread on social media.

The Iraqi Security Media Network stated in a statement made through the X social media platform that 1,905 soldiers affiliated with the Assad regime were handed over to the Syrian side at the Al-Qaim Border Gate after benefiting from the amnesty issued by the Syrian authorities.

In the statement, it was emphasized that a written commitment was obtained from the soldiers regarding their return to their families before leaving, and it was also stated that the weapons in the possession of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense would be handed over to the newly established Syrian government.

The units belonging to the newly established government in Syria received the soldiers returned by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. A snapshot of the moment when the fugitive soldiers arrived in Syria spread on social media. The images showed that all the soldiers were sitting on the ground and did not raise their heads.

Approximately 2,000 soldiers affiliated with the deposed Syrian regime fled to Iraq through the Al-Qaim Border Gate on December 7.
