Four people in Şişli, Istanbul, were arrested by the police for conducting illegal excavation in the Rum Orthodox Cemetery. The four suspects, who were determined to have dug the cemetery, were taken into custody by the police. Officials who witnessed the illegal excavation in Aya Lefter Kurtuluş Rum Orthodox Cemetery in Şişli Feriköy neighborhood on Friday, August 23, reported the incident to the police. Upon the notification, the authorities initiated an investigation. It was determined that a 6-meter deep excavation was made in the cemetery during the operations conducted by the Security Branch Directorate of the Provincial Police Department. 48 pieces of pottery, 6 plastic bottles, and 1 glass jar were found in the area. THEY CAME WITH 2 VEHICLESDuring the investigation, the teams determined that the suspects came to the crime scene with two separate vehicles from Küçükçekmece. V.Ş, N.S, M.A, and A.A, whose identities and addresses were identified, were apprehended by the police. In the searches conducted at the addresses of N.S. and V.Ş, a 48-page document related to treasure hunting and treasure locations, 6 explosive materials used for breaking rocks, a ground scanning device used for treasure hunting, and a schematic diagram were seized. THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING DURING THE EXCAVATIONIt was understood that the suspects believed that there was a burial next to the cemetery and committed the crime for this reason, but they did not find any material after the excavation. The procedures of the suspects in custody are ongoing.
