The Ministry of Industry and Technology has set the expiration date for old natural gas meters as December 31, 2025. Those who do not change their natural gas meters within 45 days will be fined 10,000 lira.

In 2023, the Electricity, Water, and Gas Meter Inspection Regulation published in the Official Gazette determined that the expiration date for meters that were put on the market between 2014 and 2019 or whose last inspection was conducted during this period is December 31, 2025.

MILLIONS OF SUBSCRIBERS HAVE NOT CHANGED THEIR OLD METERS

According to the information provided in the regulation, distribution companies are required to remove natural gas meters produced between 2014-2019 before the new year and replace them with a new meter that has a valid inspection. While work has begun in many provinces of Turkey within the scope of this application, it has been revealed that millions of subscribers have not changed their old natural gas meters that they are currently using in their homes.

In the new process, subscribers must notify the relevant provincial directorates about the natural gas meters to be changed by applying by the end of February. After the notification, the inspection of the meters will be carried out by the Ministry's provincial directorates at the service providers agreed upon by the user.

A SCHEDULE WILL BE PREPARED AND DELIVERED TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER

Additionally, according to the information in the regulation, the user will be responsible for the process of removing the meter to be inspected from its location and bringing it to the service. Meters found suitable as a result of initial, periodic, or stock inspections will be stamped. After the first inspection, a schedule for the future maintenance of the meter will be prepared and delivered to the rightful owner.

THERE IS A FINE OF UP TO 10 THOUSAND LIRA

In the process where meter changes are mandatory until December 31, 2025, subscribers who do not fulfill their obligations will face a fine of up to 10 thousand lira due to non-compliance with the regulation as a result of inspections that will start in 2026.

Administrative actions will be taken against users who do not renew their meters in the new year for the act of 'using a measuring device with an expired stamp.' Administrative sanctions will also be implemented against users who do not report the list within the specified time, or who report incomplete or incorrect information.
