After the U.S. Supreme Court approved the TikTok ban, over 170 million users were unable to use TikTok; the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that he would sign an executive order to block the ban.
The U.S. Supreme Court approved a law on January 17 that anticipates a ban on the Chinese social media platform TikTok in the U.S. if it is not sold.
More than 170 million users who wanted to implement the ban this morning, two days after the approval of the ban decision, encountered a message stating, "A law has been passed banning TikTok in the U.S. So, unfortunately, you cannot use TikTok right now. We are lucky that President (Donald) Trump has stated he will work with us to reopen TikTok when he takes office. Please keep your ears open for us."
TRUMP HAD THE FINAL WORD
After tomorrow's inauguration ceremony, the elected President of the U.S., Donald Trump, announced on his Truth Social account that he would sign an executive order to postpone the TikTok ban.
Trump, who called on companies not to allow TikTok to "remain in the dark," said, "On Monday, I will issue an executive order extending the deadline for the law's ban to take effect, so we can make a deal to protect our national security."
"THE U.S. SHOULD BE A PARTNER"
Stating that he wants the U.S. to have a 50% stake in a joint venture, Trump shared: "By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands, and allow it to rise. There will be no TikTok without U.S. approval. With our approval, its value is hundreds of billions of dollars, maybe even trillions of dollars. Therefore, my first thought is to establish a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners, with the U.S. having a 50% ownership stake in this joint venture established through any acquisition we choose."
THANK YOU TO TRUMP FROM TIKTOK
In a statement published on TikTok's X account after the announcement, thanks were given to Trump. The statement said, "We will seek a long-term solution with President Trump to keep TikTok in the U.S."
TRUMP MAY POSTPONE THE BAN BY 60 TO 90 DAYS
According to U.S. laws, the president has the authority to postpone the ban for a one-time period of 90 days. This means that Trump can halt the TikTok ban when he takes office tomorrow. However, the platform must be sold to a U.S.-based company during this period.
The Washington Post reported that Trump is considering postponing the TikTok ban by 60 to 90 days. The New York Times also stated that Trump would sign an executive order to halt the ban until an agreement is reached with the Chinese company.
