IT HAS BEEN CONTINUING SINCE FRIDAY
The number of people applying to hospitals due to stomach and intestinal illnesses seen in Tokat since Friday has risen to approximately 5,000. Governor Abdullah Köklü, who visited patients receiving treatment in the city's hospitals, provided information on the latest situation. Köklü reported that 40 of the approximately 70 people hospitalized had been discharged, while about 30 people are still receiving treatment.
Stating that none of the current patients, including those receiving treatment at the university hospital and private hospitals, are in life-threatening danger, Köklü said that the patients are expected to recover their health with fluid replacement.
THE SOURCE OF THE COMPLAINTS IS NOT YET KNOWN
Water samples taken to determine the cause of the illnesses were sent to Ankara. Stating that the analysis results are expected to be announced late on Tuesday or on Wednesday, Köklü emphasized that it would not be correct to say the complaints are waterborne before definitive results are obtained.
Reporting that work is being carried out in coordination with the municipality, Köklü noted that all water tanks in the city were examined in detail over the weekend.
Governor Köklü said, “We do not currently know whether it is waterborne. It would not be correct to say it is waterborne. I think we will reach a healthier conclusion when the analysis result of the Ministry of Health's General Directorate of Public Health reaches our province.”
HYGIENE WARNING FOR CITIZENS
Stating that citizens should act cautiously until the analysis results are announced, Köklü called for attention to hygiene rules in water and food consumption.
While authorities continue their investigations to clarify the cause of the complaints, applications to healthcare institutions in the city are also being monitored.
SCHOOLS IN TOKAT CITY CENTER OPEN TOMORROW
Also touching on the decision to suspend education for one day in Tokat city center, Köklü said the measure was implemented so that comprehensive cleaning and hygiene work could be carried out in schools.
Stating that there is no similar problem in the districts, Köklü announced that education and training in schools in the city center will resume on Tuesday, October 13.
Expressing that new measures could be taken if deemed necessary, Köklü stated that there is currently no situation requiring excessive concern. Addressing parents as well, Köklü asked that children showing mild symptoms not be sent to school.
The definitive assessment regarding the source of the complaints will be made after the analysis results of the water samples are announced.
