Trabzonspor has initiated legal proceedings against those who insulted Şenol Güneş.

After the controversial match that caused tension between Trabzonspor's head coach Şenol Güneş and Bodrum FK's head coach Volkan Demirel, action was taken.

LEGAL PROCEEDINGS INITIATED AGAINST THOSE WHO INSULTED GÜNEŞ

Trabzonspor Vice President Kemal Ertürk announced that they have initiated legal proceedings against those who made insulting posts and comments regarding the team's head coach Şenol Güneş after the Bodrum FK match.

Here is Kemal Ertürk's statement;

"After the match we played against Sipay Bodrum, unfounded, insulting, and defamatory posts made about our head coach Mr. Şenol Güneş on social media and various platforms have been identified.

Our Legal Committee has initiated legal proceedings against social media users and sports commentators who made posts that exceed the limits of criticism, are unjust, unfounded, and lack legal basis, in accordance with the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code and Law No. 6222.

We would like to inform the public that we will follow the process to ensure that those who have made baseless accusations and claims that attack personal rights beyond the limits of criticism regarding our head coach Mr. Şenol Güneş will be held accountable before justice, just as we have done before."

WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN GÜNEŞ AND DEMİREL

In the 17th week of the Trendyol Super League, Trabzonspor hosted Bodrum FK. A notable incident occurred during the ceremony. Trabzonspor's head coach Şenol Güneş approached Bodrum FK's head coach Volkan Demirel to wish him success before the match and extended his hand. However, Demirel went to his place on the bench without shaking Güneş's hand. After the incident, Güneş also went towards his own place. Şenol Güneş had previously made statements regarding why Hatay, one of the provinces affected by the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, did not play its matches while he was the head coach of Beşiktaş. Volkan Demirel was also in charge of Hatayspor at that time.

DEMİREL: I AM NOT APOLOGIZING

Regarding the photo taken with head coach Şenol Güneş before the match, Demirel stated, "I have always had infinite respect for communities. I do not think I have ever disrespected any football person. If what I did today is considered disrespectful, I have struggled twice in my life; once when my father passed away and once during the earthquake. They said we could play football while there was a funeral. The one who said that was Şenol. I do not respect a person who has no respect for the dead. He should know what people are going through there and not make such statements to look good to communities. This had upset me a lot, and I was going to say this whenever I saw him. I have been doing this for 3 years, and I have never seen a coach waiting for me at the beginning of the tunnel. He guessed and started waiting for me there. I had told myself that I would not greet Şenol and would not take a photo with him. This has nothing to do with communities. This is my own opinion. If it has been misrepresented, I apologize to the public, but I do not apologize to Şenol Güneş," he expressed.

GÜNEŞ: IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S A DOG, I WILL SAY 'WELCOME'

Trabzonspor's head coach Şenol Güneş, regarding the photo taken with Volkan Demirel before the match, said, "My duty is to say welcome to those who come. I waited, but it was something that was planned beforehand. I tell the players what I have been told. He has constructed the statement I made to the public in his mind. I do not see those who exploit emotions for their own benefit during the earthquake as normal people. When it was said that matches should not be played during the earthquake period, I said that you cannot win by doing this. This has nothing to do with the dead; I am talking about something related to clubs. I spoke about the decision made. There was a mixed situation at that time. I have a relative in Hatay who lost someone close to him. I went to help. You are trying to say something with a cunning attitude, and it does not suit you. Saying welcome is my duty. It does not matter if a dog comes there; I have to say welcome. No, I am not speaking corporately, no, this and that. Do not speak with demagoguery. I have nothing to say to him," he stated.
