As of January 1, 2025, transactions cannot be conducted with old-style identity cards at the land registry offices.
Since the transition to chip-enabled identity cards in 2016 across Turkey, chip-enabled IDs have been used in many areas such as banking, healthcare services, and taxation processes. Chip-enabled identity cards play a secure role in digital services such as e-signatures and identity verification, providing convenience in transactions.
IT WILL BE MANDATORY IN LAND REGISTRY
To ensure the security of the land registry, the identification of rights holders and personal identity information is also carried out using Turkish Republic identity cards (chip-enabled identity cards) and the Electronic Identity Verification System (EKDS). In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, has made the use of chip-enabled identity cards mandatory starting from the new year to ensure that transactions can be carried out securely and effectively. Chip-enabled identity cards will be used for important land registry transactions such as real estate buying and selling, inheritance-based land registry transactions, and heir identification. This application will both increase the speed of transactions and help prevent fraud.
CAN ALSO BE DONE THROUGH E-GOVERNMENT
Those who have not switched to the new type of identity will not be able to carry out any transactions at land registry offices with old-type identity cards as of January 1, 2025. To avoid any grievances in land registry transactions, identity cards need to be changed by December 31. Applications for identity change can be made through Provincial Population and Citizenship Directorates or via e-Government.
