Russia and Ukraine agreed on a ceasefire to stop attacks on energy facilities. Announcing the development, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire entered into force immediately and called on the parties to comply with the agreement.
An agreement was reached on a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine War, where mutual attacks on energy infrastructure have recently increased.
TRUMP ANNOUNCED THE CEASEFIRE
The development was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement on social media, Trump said, "An energy ceasefire has been declared in the war between Russia and Ukraine."
Stating that the ceasefire was accepted by both Moscow and Kyiv and took effect immediately, Trump called on the parties not to violate the agreement.
ATTACKS ON ENERGY FACILITIES ALSO AFFECTED GLOBAL MARKETS
In the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, energy infrastructure has recently become one of the main targets of mutual attacks. Attacks on electricity generation and distribution facilities and oil and natural gas infrastructure increased concerns about the security of energy supply in both countries. Damage to electricity grids caused outages in some regions and disruptions in energy services.
Mutual attacks also increased uncertainty in global energy markets. In particular, the targeting of oil refineries in Russia negatively affected global fuel supply and created upward pressure on fuel prices, especially diesel. Fluctuations in energy markets increased transportation and production costs while also strengthening inflation concerns worldwide.
