U.S. President Donald Trump has completely banned the entry of citizens from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen into the country. The decree also imposed restrictions on citizens from 7 other countries.
During his first presidential term, the highly controversial decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to ban citizens of 7 countries from traveling to the country, he signed another similar decision.
TRUMP'S ATTENTION-GRABBING DECISION
With the decision signed by Trump, which will come into effect at midnight on Monday, he banned the entry of citizens from 12 countries into the country on the grounds of "national security." These countries include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
RESTRICTIONS ON 7 COUNTRIES
Donald Trump imposed restrictions on the entry of citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela into the U.S. with a Presidential Decree. Trump's decree does not cover those with valid visas and individuals with permanent residency in the U.S.
"We cannot accept open immigration from any country that we cannot review safely and securely... Therefore, I am signing a new decision that imposes travel restrictions for Yemen, Somalia, Haiti, Libya, and many other countries," he stated.
SECOND BAN DECISION
In 2017, during his first presidential term, Trump had also made a similar decision, banning the entry of citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen into the U.S. Later, North Korea, Venezuela, and Chad were also included in this scope. The Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that the ban was in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.
