Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly, visited military facilities here. This visit to the facilities where weapons sent to Ukraine are produced drew the reaction of former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "wants the Democrats to win the elections." Targeting the Ukrainian leader, Trump said, "I think Zelensky is the greatest salesman in history. Whenever he comes to the country, he returns with $60 billion." Speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump stated, "If I win the election, I will call Putin and Zelensky and tell them to reach an agreement to end the war." ZELENSKY PLANS TO RECEIVE NEW AIDZelensky, in a statement made simultaneously with Trump, said, "The decisive actions of the US could accelerate the halt of Russian aggression next year." Trump's statements coincided with the period when Zelensky visited the country to present his strategy, which he called the "victory plan," to US President Joe Biden. Zelensky had stated that after his meeting with Biden, he would present his plan to the US Congress and the two presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Trump had previously criticized the support the US provided to Ukraine and praised Russian leader Vladimir Putin. However, Trump had indicated that he would "most likely" meet with Zelensky. RUSSIA'S LONG-RANGE MISSILE THREATFor months, Ukraine has been asking the US, the UK, and other Western allies to lift restrictions on long-range missiles to strike targets in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated last week that Ukraine attacking its territory with long-range weapons would mean NATO is at war with Russia. Zelensky expressed gratitude to their allies for the support received so far and referred to the US as the "main supporter." To date, the US has provided $56 billion in aid, making it the country that has supported Ukraine's defense the most. TRUMP THINKS DIFFERENTLY THAN THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATIONDonald Trump stated that if elected in November, he would "end the war within 24 hours," but he did not provide details other than describing US support for Ukraine as a waste of money. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met with Trump in March, said, "Trump will not spend a dime on the Ukraine-Russia war, thus the war will end."
