U.S. President Donald Trump announced the name of his successor six months before the term of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell ends. Although Trump stated that he would reveal the new chairman who will replace Powell early next year, he hinted at who he has in mind. The U.S. President indicated that he is considering White House Economic Advisor Kevin Hassett as a replacement for Powell, with whom he frequently clashes.
U.S. President Donald Trump described Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, as a "potential chairman" of the Federal Reserve (Fed).
During a statement regarding investment accounts for children under 18, referred to as the "Trump account," Trump thanked participants and mentioned Hassett as a "potential Fed chairman."
"A POTENTIAL FED CHAIRMAN AMONG US"
Before mentioning Hassett's name, Trump said, "I think a potential Fed chairman is also here. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, potential. I can say he is a respected person. Thank you, Kevin."
U.S. President Trump had indicated during a cabinet meeting prior to the program that he would announce the new Fed chairman at the beginning of next year.
10-PERSON LIST
Continuing his criticisms of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term will expire next May, Trump stated, "We will probably announce the new chairman of the Fed at the beginning of next year."
In response to a question from reporters, Trump mentioned that they were reviewing potential 10 candidates for Fed chairman and that the process involved Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and many others.
Trump said, "I think we evaluated 10 people and narrowed it down to one in the end."
