US President Donald Trump's defense of the intervention against Iranian ships with the words 'We acted like pirates' sparked controversy. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei reacted by stating that these remarks were 'an open confession of a crime.' Baghaei, who described the US actions as violating international law, called on the United Nations not to normalize such violations.
US President Donald Trump's defense of the US Navy's intervention against Iranian ships, saying "we acted like pirates," has sparked international debate. In a speech at an event in Florida, Trump stated that Iranian ships were seized, adding, "We took the ship, we took the cargo, we took the oil. It's quite a profitable business."
While US interventions against Iranian ports and naval operations have stirred controversy under international law, Trump's remarks have further fueled this debate.
IRAN: THIS IS AN OPEN ADMISSION OF A CRIME
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei strongly reacted to Trump's statements. In a post on his social media account, Baghaei described the US seizure of Iranian ships as "unlawful."
Baghaei said, "The US President has clearly described the illegal seizure of Iranian ships as 'piracy' and boasted about it by saying 'we act like pirates.'"
Arguing that these words were not a slip of the tongue, Baghaei stated, "This is a direct admission of the criminal nature of their actions against international maritime transport."
CALL TO THE UN: DO NOT NORMALIZE THESE VIOLATIONS
The Iranian official also called on the international community, emphasizing that United Nations member states and the UN Secretary-General must reject such "clear violations."
Baghaei argued that US actions are contrary to international law and stressed that such interventions should not be allowed to become normalized.
