Last evening, President Trump, who was sworn in, signed numerous presidential decrees on his first day in office. Trump issued a mass pardon for 1,600 individuals found guilty in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, while also withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization and canceling 78 executive actions from the Biden administration, including an order allowing transgender individuals to serve in the military.
President Trump signed numerous executive orders during his first signing ceremony in the Oval Office following the inauguration ceremony that started at 8:00 PM Turkish time last night.
SIGNATURES CAME IN QUICK SUCCESSION
On the first day of his second term, President Trump signed actions that withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, froze hiring in the federal government, and required federal employees to return to the office.
Some of Trump's actions on his first day in office include:
- Trump granted clemency to most of those charged in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Trump stated that his pardons would cover approximately 1,600 people, effectively granting a blanket pardon to all supporters who did not accept Biden's victory in the 2020 election.
- He signed an executive order extending the deadline for TikTok's parent company to find a new owner or face a ban in the U.S.
- He declared a national emergency at the southern border and ordered the use of Pentagon resources and personnel to be deployed and utilized for the construction of the border wall. His administration also ended the use of an application that allowed immigrants to inform U.S. Customs and Border Protection of their plans to enter the U.S.
- Trump also signed an order aimed at redefining birthright citizenship.
- He announced the withdrawal of the U.S. from the World Health Organization. His order stated that the WHO "continues to demand unjustly high payments" from the U.S.
- Trump signed an action implementing a hiring freeze for federal government employees through executive action.
- He also officially established a new Government Efficiency Department as an entity within the federal government through executive action.
- Trump took executive action regarding the names of U.S. landmarks, including renaming Denali and the Gulf of Mexico.
- He signed another executive order withdrawing the U.S. from the global emissions reduction agreement known as the Paris climate agreement.
- He canceled 78 executive actions from the Biden administration, including an executive order requiring federal agencies to extend prohibitions on gender discrimination; an order requiring appointees in the executive branch to sign an ethics agreement; an order allowing transgender individuals to serve in the military; and an order prohibiting the renewal of private prison contracts.
