Following US President Donald Trump's harsh statements toward Iran, it has been claimed that the US and Israel are preparing a joint attack targeting Tehran's energy infrastructure. While the US press alleges the operation could begin at any moment, a warning of "comprehensive retaliation" from the Iranian side was not long in coming.
TRUMP THREATENS AGAIN
In remarks made during a cabinet meeting held yesterday at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland, Trump said of Iran, "We will hit them very hard. At some point, they will say, 'We can't take this anymore.'"
EYES ON THE WEEKEND
The US-based Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed US officials, reported that Trump has "ordered a new strike plan aimed at forcing Tehran to surrender" and that the operation could begin over the weekend.
Another US-based news outlet, CBS News, also reported claims that the US and Israel are considering conducting joint attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure throughout the weekend. According to the report, potential targets include oil refineries and power plants. The same report stated that Trump has not yet given final approval, but Washington and Tel Aviv are coordinating on the plan, and some senior White House officials objected to the plan during the cabinet meeting.
HEIGHTENED ACTIVITY AFTER NETANYAHU'S VISIT
If the alleged plan is implemented, it would mean Israel rejoining joint attacks with the US against Iran for the first time since the early stages of the war. The claims came to the fore following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meetings this week in Washington with Trump and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, citing a senior security official, described the potential US and Israeli attack plans against Iranian infrastructure as "madness."
According to the report, the official stated that Iran has prepared a "comprehensive plan" to respond, adding that the plan includes targeting Israel's critical infrastructure and US energy infrastructure in the region.
