The third meeting regarding the minimum wage has concluded. During the meeting, neither the workers' nor the employers' representatives brought any figures to the table. Thus, the determination of the minimum wage has been postponed to the fourth meeting. Türk-İş Vice President Ağar stated that both a figure and a result could be expected next week.

The third meeting on the minimum wage has concluded. It was expected that both the worker and employer sides would come with wage increase proposals. In a statement made after the meeting, Türk-İş Vice President Ramazan Ağar announced that no figures were discussed during the meeting. Ağar expressed that both a figure and a result could be presented next week.

Türk-İş Vice President Ağar stated, "We are the side that demands money, and we will achieve results accordingly." The Minimum Wage Determination Commission had held its first meeting on December 10 and its second meeting on December 16.

In the meeting, the employer side was represented by the Turkish Employers' Associations Confederation (TİSK), while the worker side was represented by TÜRK-İŞ, as it has the most members.

NO FIGURES DISCUSSED

It was expected that the worker and employer sides would present their proposals for the minimum wage during the discussions. After the meeting held at the Ministry, Türk-İş Vice President Ramazan Ağar stated that no figures were discussed.

Ağar said, "Today, our Minister of Labor also chaired the commission. We presented our demands. If the minimum wage is low, we can work for a year but cannot make ends meet. Due to the purchasing power over the past year, 11 thousand liras of the 17 thousand lira has been lost. We need to make people smile. Therefore, if there is a reasonable wage that we can accept, we will agree. Again, no figures were brought up in the commission. We are the side that demands money. The political authority should state a figure so that we can take our stance accordingly. We said that the actual inflation will not yield any results," he added.

IMPORTANT SUMMIT FOR WORKERS

The Türk-İş Board of Presidents met before the third meeting on the minimum wage. The roadmap to be followed in the minimum wage negotiations was clarified during the meeting. Türk-İş Vice President Ramazan Ağar stated, "Everything is ready. We will take our stance according to the other party's steps." Before the meeting, Ağar responded to the question, "What if no figure is presented?" by saying, "We will talk accordingly. We will not announce a figure."

MINISTER IŞIKHAN: WE ARE NOW EXPECTING A PROPOSAL FROM THE WORKER AND EMPLOYER SECTORS

Labor and Social Security Minister Vedat Işıkhan, who will chair the third meeting of the commission, said, "We are now expecting a proposal from our worker and employer sectors."

Işıkhan stated, "Hopefully, after receiving this proposal, we will discuss it again with our presidents and aim to conclude it within the next week."

In response to a question about whether there will be a fourth meeting, Işıkhan replied, "Let's first hold our third meeting. We will look at the situation afterward. But we are now waiting for wage proposals to come to our commission."

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE ANNOUNCED?

Accordingly, it is expected that the new minimum wage will be determined and shared with the public between December 23-27.

According to the law, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission is required to determine and announce the wage increase rate by the end of December.

THE EXPECTATION OF THE WORKER SIDE IS A "LIVABLE" WAGE

TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Ramazan Ağar, in a statement at the end of the second meeting, said, "We are demanding a wage that millions of minimum wage earners can live on according to the current conditions."

THE EXPECTATION OF EMPLOYERS IS "SUSTAINABILITY"

TİSK Secretary General Akansel Koç stated, "We will manage the process with a perspective that not only protects employers but also takes into account the purchasing power of our working friends."

He also expressed the demand for employer support for the minimum wage to continue in 2025.

HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE IN 2025?

There has been ongoing debate about whether the minimum wage increase will be based on year-end inflation or target inflation. Different scenarios regarding the increase estimates are being discussed.

In the markets, there is a strong expectation of a 30-40% increase in the minimum wage.

The prevailing view in the business world is that the minimum wage should be raised to the level of 22-23 thousand lira.

Expectations in reports from foreign institutions have also shaped around a range of 25-30%.

HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members, including five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government, as required by law.

The commission meets on the dates determined in December to work on determining the new minimum wage.

The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the ministry, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote.

In the event of a tie, the majority is considered to be the side of the chairperson.

THE CURRENT NET MINIMUM WAGE IS 17 THOUSAND 2 LIRA

The minimum wage is currently applied as a gross monthly wage of 20 thousand 2 lira 50 kuruş for a worker, resulting in a net amount of 17 thousand 2 lira 12 kuruş after deductions.

The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 23 thousand 502 lira 94 kuruş for one worker. Of this, 20 thousand 2 lira 50 kuruş is the gross minimum wage, 3 thousand 100 lira 39 kuruş is the social security premium, and 400 lira 5 kuruş is the employer's unemployment insurance fund.

POSSIBLE INCREASE RATES FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE

The net and gross figures that will result from the upcoming increase rates for the minimum wage are as follows:

With a 20% increase: 20 thousand 402 lira

With a 25% increase: 21 thousand 252 lira

With a 30% increase: 22 thousand 102 lira

With a 35% increase: 22 thousand 952 lira

With a 40% increase: 23 thousand 802 lira
