TÜRK-İŞ General President Ergün Atalay met with workers at the Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant to support the miners who are protesting against the asset sale decision. Atalay criticized the government with the words, "This country has an economic policy, but it has no social policy."
MINERS HAVE BLOCKED THEMSELVES UNDERGROUND
The protest initiated by 500 miners who have blocked themselves underground against the asset sale of the Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant in Nallıhan district of Ankara continues. TÜRK-İŞ General President Ergün Atalay met with workers at the mining site. After his meeting with the workers, Atalay stated, "Our friends will not come out from below without receiving an answer."
"THEY WILL NOT COME OUT WITHOUT AN ANSWER"
Atalay said the following in his speech: "Negotiations have been ongoing for 1.5 months, but since yesterday morning, our friends have been fighting. For the past two days, we have been in the Parliament with DİSK and HAK-İŞ. We have been going through a process for 130 days. They are selling three-quarters of a part of Beypazarı, Nallıhan, and Çayırhan, and two-fifths of another part. There is not a single word regarding the workers there. This is not sustainable. We see the end result of the privatization that has been done so far. Nothing has been good for this country, nor do we think it will be good today or tomorrow. The place we are in is a profitable place. Families are here, and we have 500 brothers down there. We have issues related to taxes in this cold and difficult environment. This country has an economic policy, but it has no social policy. Our friends are working under the most difficult conditions; we have no intention of becoming managers or rich here. We say that we want to continue our work peacefully with a wage that will feed our families and educate our children, but what is being done disrupts our peace. Those who govern the country should take this seriously. This is not sustainable; they cannot maintain this. They should listen to our voices. We will continue to do whatever is necessary tomorrow. Our friends are not joyfully protesting down there. They will not come out without receiving an answer as soon as possible.
