Turkey Eyes $88.5B E-Commerce Volume İn 2023: Pm

21.11.2017 19:58

Binali Yildirim says infrastructure should be developed in rural and urban areas equally.

Turkey hopes to achieve an e-commerce volume worth $88.5 billion on its 100th anniversary in 2023, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday.

Speaking at an international e-commerce conference in Turkey's southern Antalya province, Yildirim said: "Turkey aims for an e-commerce volume worth 350 billion Turkish liras on its 100th anniversary in 2023."

Yildirim said there were over 70 million mobile users in Turkey, therefore it was important to develop quality infrastructure.

"Our infrastructure needs to be equally developed everywhere in Turkey… Your wish to become an information society will amount to nothing if there are huge differences between cities and villages in terms of infrastructure," Yildirim said.

He said that an information-based society should be inclusive, adding that even senior citizens should be provided computer literacy.

In the digital-age, he stressed, cyber security was very important.

"Cyber security is becoming important for people and for countries at the same time, otherwise this big invention, the internet, is becoming a threat, a danger and a hurdle instead of a blessing." -
