Turkey Promises To Be 'İnclusive' During G20 Presidency

22.10.2014 20:33

Turkey will take over the G20 presidency on December 1, 2014 from Australia to lead the world's main developing countries.

Turkey will create an "inclusive environment" when it takes over the G20 presidency in December, head of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey Güven Sak said Wednesday.

Turkey will take over the rotating presidency of G20, the group of 20 developing countries, on December 1, 2014 from Australia for a year.

"Turkey plans to include all sides of society, from representatives of Small Medium Enterprises to civil society," Sak said in his speech to a panel in Istanbul on the topic "Towards Turkey's Presidency in the G20."

Former Mexican ambassador to the U.K. Andres Rozental said Turkey as a "middle-power" could play a mediating role among countries from different cultures and geographies.

Barry Carin, a senior fellow at Center for International Governance Innovation, said Turkey had a tough period ahead since there were many challenging issues, including slow growth rate in economies to Ebola and extremism in the Middle East.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister responsible for economy Ali Babacan too had spoken of Turkey's goal of embracing out-of-group countries at a G20 gathering in Australia on September 20.

The G20 group that includes 19 countries and the European Union works closely with multilateral bodies, such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the UN.
