Turkey wants to enhance its economic ties with New Zealand, said Turkey's President Abdullah Gul on Tuesday in a bilateral meeting with Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae in Turkish capital Ankara.
Gul said Mateparae's visit coincided with the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli, which pitted the two countries against each other.
He said the two countries gained friendship from a bitter war in which there was no winner except peace and fraternity.
Turkey's president also said Turkey shares a vision with New Zealand in their desire to enhance peace, welfare and security in a geographical location from Southeastern Asia to Afghanistan and the Middle East.
On the other hand, New Zealand's Governor-General Mateparae said the two countries focused on setting a modern relation appropriate for the 21st century.
Mateparae also praised Turkey's humanitarian work with Syrian refugees.
