Turkish Charity Distributes Aid To Families İn Yemen

IHH distributes food packages to 2,600 families as part of Turkey's joint campaign 'Yemen awaits humanity'

By Etem Geylan

A Turkish humanitarian group distributed food packages aid to 2,600 Yemeni families, according to a statement on Thursday.

The Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said the humanitarian crisis continues to grow in Yemen.

IHH distributed food aid to needy families in Yemen, including the regions in Sanaa, Aden, Al-Mahwit, Al Hudaydah, Sadah, Marib, Raymah, Amran and Dhamar.

Some 15,600 Yemenis benefited from the food aid consisting of flour, rice, sugar, legumes, cooking oil, and baby food.

Last month, Turkish humanitarian agencies launched a joint aid campaign for people in Yemen under the banner "Yemen awaits humanity".

The IHH, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay), the Turkish Deniz Feneri Association, Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen) and Turkish HAK-IS Trade Union Confederation are part of the campaign.

Part of this stage of the aid was carried out by Namaz Kardeslik Platform.

IHH added that their aid campaign will continue until the crisis in Yemen is resolved.

Impoverished Yemen has remained wracked by violence since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital, Sanaa.

The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Sunni-Arab allies launched a massive air campaign in Yemen aimed at rolling back Houthi gains. -
