Turkish Ngos To Give Helping Hand During Ramadan

24.05.2017 14:43

Turkish aid agencies are planning to reach millions of people across the world with food aid during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the agency said Wednesday.

Families in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Balkans will benefit from iftar, or fast-breaking, meals from the start of Ramadan on Saturday.

The Turkish Red Crescent will aim to reach 20,000 families over the month and will concentrate its iftar tents in the northern Syrian province of Idlib and Gaza in Palestine.

Ships loaded with over 60,000 tons of humanitarian aid will head to countries hit by famine such as South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Yemen, the agency said on its website.

Separately, the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation will deliver donations from Muslims to 130,000 poverty-stricken people in 27 countries.

The foundation will also send out 300,000 aid packages to 2.5 million people across 104 counties. Deputy President Osman Atalay said Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Bangladesh, Iraq and Myanmar would be prioritized.

Iftar meals will be provided by the Iyilikder aid agency in 15 countries, including Bosnia-Herzegovina, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Niger and Palestine.

The Sadakatasi Foundation and the Cansuyu Charity and Solidarity Organization will also provide iftar meals for refugees around the globe. -
