Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held separate meetings Tuesday with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and Algerian Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane in the central Turkish province of Konya.
The two leaders came to Konya for the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games opening ceremony and were received by the Turkish president at Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium. The meetings were closed to the press.
Erdogan earlier held talks with his visiting Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and Saudi Arabia's Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal on the sidelines of the event.
The games will run through Aug. 18 with the participation of more than 4,000 athletes from 56 countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hissein Brahim Taha, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), thanked Türkiye for hosting the event.
Taha said it is important that Islamic countries hold such events which strengthen intercultural dialogue. -
