Most Turkish dailies Tuesday covered Turkish tanks and armored vehicles taking up positions near the besieged border town of Kobane after at least three shells fired by militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) hit Turkish territory on Sept. 29, without causing damage. 



HURRIYET reports that the Turkish Armed Forces positioned 35 tanks near the town of Suruc in Sanliurfa province after shells targeted Yumurtalik village, which is now the only open border crossing where refugees fleeing ISIL can enter Turkey.



The daily also said one of the shells fired by ISIL dropped 200 meters from where journalists gather to report the news.



According to SABAH, Turkey will set up a safety zone in Syria border territory where 10,000 soldiers will provide protection; another 5,000 soldiers will be waiting as back-up on the border.



The Turkish government has pushed for a no-fly zone over Syria and a buffer zone inside the Syrian border but the international community remains reluctant.



VATAN ran the headline "On the tip of barrel," saying that ISIL militants were spotted on the Turkish side of Kobani, a Syrian-Kurdish city on the Turkish border where they were in a house overlooking a railway.



The daily said three people were injured Sunday in Suruc when a mortar round fell on their home. Turkish forces replied with artillery fire.



More than 160,000 mostly Kurdish residents of the Kobani area have crossed into Turkey to escape ISIL's advance on the town.



In other news, news organizations reported the accident on the Istanbul subway where a passenger was injured when an iron bar smashed through the window of a train and hit him in the hip.



MILLIYET reported that 33-year-old Fatih Coban waited in blood after being struck by an iron bar that smased through the window of an Istanbul metro carriage traveling between the Seyrantepe and Sanati stops on the northern Haciosman/Yenikapi route.



Meanwhile, a Turkish billionaire's donation of $24M to the School of Public Health of Harvard was another story Turkish dailies focused on Tuesday.



STAR said: "Record donation for health." The paper said that a Turkish entrepreneur had donated $24 million to the School of Public Health of Harvard to create the Sabri Ulker Center for Nutrient, Genetic, and Metabolic Research.



The daily said The Sabri Ulker Center will address chronic metabolic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
