The cargo ship named "ANT" belonging to a Turkish company, which was damaged in a drone attack off the coast of Ukraine's Odessa, has arrived in Turkey after passing through the Istanbul Strait. During the strait passage, the heavy damage on the ship was clearly seen for the first time, and it was stated that two Turkish crew members who were slightly injured in the attack are in good health, and the ship will undergo technical inspection in Yalova.

The cargo ship named "ANT," owned by a Turkish company and attacked by a drone off the coast of Ukraine's Odesa port, was brought to Turkey this morning after passing through the Bosphorus.

The Vanuatu-flagged vessel, owned by Istanbul-based Maksimar Denizcilik, was attacked off Odesa on May 28, and two Turkish crew members on board were slightly injured during the incident.

INJURED CREW MEMBERS IN GOOD CONDITION

The fire that broke out on the ship after the attack was extinguished with the intervention of the Ukrainian navy, while the injured crew members were taken to the hospital. It was stated that the Turkish personnel, whose treatment was completed, are in good health. Later, efforts were initiated to bring the ship to Turkey.

EXTENT OF DAMAGE REVEALED DURING BOSPHORUS PASSAGE

The ship, towed into Turkish territorial waters, was passed through the Bosphorus escorted by tugs from the Directorate General of Coastal Safety.

While the extent of the damage was not fully understood from images shared by Ukrainian authorities after the attack, it became clearly evident during the Bosphorus passage that the ship had been severely damaged.

TO BE EXAMINED IN YALOVA

It was reported that the ship, believed to be loaded, will first be taken to a shipyard in Yalova. After the technical inspection to be carried out there, it will be assessed whether the repair is economically viable.

It was learned that if the repair cost turns out to be high, sending the ship for scrapping in Aliağa, Izmir is among the options.
