Turkish University Head Rings Nasdaq Closing Bell

22.04.2014 12:34

The ceremony was held to honor the 150th anniversary of the founding of Bogazici University.

President of Turkey's Istanbul-based Bogazici University, Gulay Barbarosoglu, rang the closing bell of the NASDAQ Stock Market on Monday at Times Square, New York, to honor the 150th anniversary of the founding of the school.

The ringing of the bell was also to celebrate Bogazici's partnership with Fordham University, which cooperates with NASDAQ OMX Educational Foundation for a Dual Master's Degree in Global Finance.

"We promise today that with the support of our friends in U.S. Fordham University and NASDAQ, we will continue our educational services for another 150 years," Barbarosoglu said during the ceremony.

Bogazici University, an elite Turkish public research university, was established in 1863 as Robert College, the first American college founded outside the borders of the U.S. In 1971, it transformed into Bogazici University.

NASDAQ OMX, the U.S.'s and world's leading stock market, is home to more than 3,200 listed companies with a market value of over $8 trillion and more than 10,000 corporate clients.
