Turkmenistan Hosts Transport Conference Of Landlocked Developing Countries

Held in Awaza, session organized under the theme, Financing for Better Connectivity.

The two-day Ministerial Transport Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries was held in Turkmenistan's national tourist zone of Awaza.

The conference, held on Monday and Tuesday, was organized under the theme, Financing for Better Connectivity.

In a video message on the first day of the conference, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan is ready to cooperate with the UN on increasing the role of landlocked developing countries in strengthening global transport cooperation.

The conference was attended by representatives of 39 countries and 34 international organizations.

The main agenda was to realize the goals in the field of transportation after the COVID-19 pandemic. Issues related to climate change mitigation were also discussed during the meeting.

The Turkmen side held bilateral meetings with delegations, including from the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Iran.

They discussed facilitating and accelerating transportation operations, removing barriers to document circulation during cargo transportation, and unification and harmonization of payment methods and taxes.

The parties agreed to continue holding bilateral meetings to eliminate emerging problems.

The session was part of the preparatory process for the third UN Conference on the Landlocked Developing Countries, scheduled for 2024.
