Two important operations were carried out at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) construction site in Mersin, built by the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. According to a statement from Rosatom, the plant's heat assembly specialists placed the reactor pressure vessel of the 3rd Power Unit in its design position, while the first batch of fresh nuclear fuel was delivered to the site for the 2nd Power Unit.

The reactor pressure vessel for the third unit was assembled using "open top" technology. This technology allows for the supply of equipment to the pressurized area from the open top of the cylindrical part of the reactor building, enabling the construction and assembly work to be optimally combined before the installation of the dome part of the inner protective shell.

ASSEMBLY OF THE REACTOR VESSEL PASSED INSPECTION

After the completion of the assembly of the reactor pressure vessel, a commission consisting of experts from Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., as well as independent inspection organizations Turkish Lloyd and the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK), conducted an inspection of the quality of the reactor vessel assembly.

NUCLEAR FUEL ARRIVED ON SITE FOR THE 2ND UNIT

In the last days of the year, the nuclear fuel produced for the 2nd unit also arrived at the Akkuyu NPP site. The fuel assemblies were delivered to the site in special transport containers and placed in the fresh fuel storage facility, which complies with all international nuclear safety requirements.

In a statement, Sergey Butckikh, General Manager of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., noted that the dynamics of field work this year, as in previous years, is very high, stating, "We have carried out the main operations planned in the project schedule. The heart of the 3rd power unit of Akkuyu NPP has been established, meaning we successfully completed the critical work related to the assembly of the nuclear reactor vessel. Like all other construction and installation operations on site, the installation of the reactor vessel required meticulous preparation, highly qualified specialists, and special precision at every stage. Additionally, in December, we also delivered the first batch of fuel for the 2nd unit to the Akkuyu NPP site. The fuel was transported to Turkey by land and sea in leak-proof containers under strict coordination between Akkuyu Nuclear Inc.'s relevant units, the production facility, and regulatory authorities. Before being loaded into the reactor, the containers will be kept under special conditions in the fresh fuel storage facility at the NPP site." he stated.

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant to be built in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project consists of four power units, each equipped with Russian-designed 3+ Generation VVER reactors with a capacity of 1200 megawatts.
