President Trump's opinion on Greenland is not changing. Trump stated that the U.S. and Europe need to defend Greenland for national security, saying, "We don't want Russia or China to go to Greenland. If we don't take over Greenland, Russia or China will be your neighbor. That will not happen."
US President Trump answered journalists' questions regarding the agenda after a press conference where he met with executives of oil companies at the White House.
Trump reiterated that their stance on Greenland has not changed and that they want to "own" it, claiming that he is doing a "favor" to European countries in this regard. Stating, "We do not want Russia or China to go to Greenland. If we do not take over Greenland, Russia or China will be your neighbor. This will not happen," Trump said they are determined on this issue.
"WE ARE READY TO TAKE THE HARD ROAD"
US President Trump stated, "We cannot allow China or Russia to invade Venezuela. If we had not done what we did, China or Russia would be in Venezuela." He noted that he wishes to reach an agreement with Denmark regarding Greenland, and if this does not happen, they are also ready to take the "hard road."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Greenland, an autonomous region belonging to Denmark, had previously rejected approaches from the US that included the transfer of sovereignty.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated on January 5 that everything would come to an end if the US decided to launch a military attack against its NATO ally.
Frederiksen had harshly criticized Trump's statement, "We need Greenland for our national security."
