In the case of the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, Salim Güran, the uncle sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, defended his innocence in a letter he wrote from prison. Güran claimed that Nevzat Bahtiyar was the sole perpetrator of the murder, while also thanking former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş for his support.
HER LIFELESS BODY WAS FOUND 19 DAYS AFTER SHE WENT MISSING
In the case of the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found in a sack in a stream bed 19 days after she went missing in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır on August 21, 2024, her uncle Salim Güran, who received an aggravated life sentence, published a notable letter from prison.
Güran, who defended his innocence, claimed that the sole person responsible for the murder was Nevzat Bahtiyar and alleged that he and his family were being slandered.
"WE ARE NOT MURDERERS"
In his letter, Güran used the words "I, Salim Güran, am writing as an uncle with a shattered heart," and argued that he was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment despite the lack of any concrete evidence.
Stating that he is the father of seven children, Güran said, "Narin was my life, my blood. They accused me of killing my niece. We are innocent, we are not murderers."
HE THANKED DEMİRTAŞ
In his letter, Salim Güran stated that former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş supported them, saying, "I received the greetings of Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş. I send him many, many greetings from here. During these difficult days when many people closed their ears, mouths, and eyes, he came out and shouted that we were wronged."
"THE ONLY MURDERER IS NEVZAT BAHTİYAR"
Güran, who claimed that the sole perpetrator of the murder was Nevzat Bahtiyar, argued that he was at home on the day of the incident and that the statements of witnesses confirming this were not taken into account.
Güran, who also claimed that phone records, expert reports, and pedometer data proved his innocence, said, "Read the file, go to the village, see the crime scene. The incident was committed in just 19 minutes. Despite this evidence, why doesn't anyone want to see the truth?"
In his letter, Güran used the following statements:
"I do not forgive the savage Nevzat Bahtiyar, who killed our girl, nor anyone who brought us to this state. I am also a father.
I appeal to the public: Those of you who accuse me of these things, can you bring yourselves to harm your own children? Do the slanders you cast upon us exist in your own lives?
You have turned Nevzat Bahtiyar, the savage who changed his statement 8 times, into a poor wretch. And to those who even call that savage a 'poor wretch'... My wish from God is that He makes him your neighbor.
Read the file, go to the village, see the crime scene. For God's sake, the incident was committed in just 19 minutes. What mind, what logic can accept this?
On the day of the incident, I had 7 witnesses at my home. My children and my wife were home. Their statements were not even taken into consideration."
"WE WANT JUSTICE"
Güran, who stated that they have been in prison for nearly two years, ended his letter with the words "Justice! Justice! Justice!"
"Authorities, see us now, hear our voice. We are innocent, we are not murderers," said Güran, reiterating his demand for justice after the events.
