In 2015, a special operations-supported drug operation was carried out in the Hevsel Gardens, which were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Thousands of cannabis plants planted in the protected gardens were destroyed by the teams. SOUTHEAST ANATOLIA'S LARGEST BIRD SANCTUARYLocated on the banks of the Tigris River, between Diyarbakır Castle and the river valley, Hevsel Gardens is approximately seven hundred hectares of fertile land and serves as the largest bird sanctuary in Southeast Anatolia, hosting more than 180 species. SPECIAL OPERATIONS-SUPPORTED OPERATION WAS CARRIED OUTThe operation, which was initiated yesterday morning in Hevsel Gardens on the banks of the Tigris River with the participation of mixed teams from the Provincial Police Department's Narcotics Division and Special Operations Branch, has been completed. 3,000 CANNABIS PLANTS AND 800 KILOGRAMS OF HASHISH SEIZEDDuring the operation, 3,267 cannabis plants and 800 kilograms of hashish were found in 20 different areas identified by drones. The cannabis plants were destroyed on site after samples were taken by the police teams. SUSPECTS WHO PLANTED DRUGS ARE BEING SOUGHTWhile the investigation and examination regarding the suspects of the operation are ongoing, the images of the captured drug being seized and destroyed in the region remain from the raid.
