In Antalya, former Aksu Municipality Building Inspection Director Nevzat Avcı, who was caught on video bargaining with Syrian national Faten E. for lifting the decision to demolish her workplace in exchange for sexual favors, has been indicted for the crime of 'soliciting bribes' and faces up to 6 years in prison. The footage of the moments when Aksu Municipality's Building Control Director Nevzat Avcı demanded sexual favors from Syrian national Faten E. in order to stop the demolition of a business establishment went viral on social media. Following the release of the footage, former Aksu Mayor Halil Şahin dismissed Avcı from his position and severed his ties with the municipality. It was alleged that Nevzat Avcı, who had been accused of numerous acts of corruption prior to the incident and had been reported to the prosecutor's office and CİMER (Presidency Communication Center) by many individuals, continued to hold his position despite the findings of the Ministry of Interior Inspection Board and the Court of Accounts reports. Nevzat Avcı, who was found to have engaged in bargaining for sexual favors, was arrested and sent to prison. "I AGREED TO THE OFFER TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE"An indictment has been prepared against Nevzat Avcı by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The indictment stated that Nevzat Avcı, who served as the Building Inspection Director of Aksu Municipality, demanded sexual favors from a woman in exchange for stopping the demolition of her business establishment, and that the footage of these moments was published on social media. Faten E., whose statement was included in the indictment, stated that she operated the shop together with her husband, and that she had a residence and work permit due to the fact that the license and work records of the business were in her name. Faten E. stated in her statement that she had learned that a demolition decision had been made regarding her shop, which she had been operating for 4 years, and that she went to Aksu Municipality to obtain a new license. She stated that she had a meeting with Nevzat Avcı regarding the license issue in the section related to construction works. According to her, he told her that there was a demolition decision regarding the shop and said, "We will demolish this shop, but it is in your hands." When I said, "I didn't fully understand what you mean," he said to me again, "It is completely in your hands to prevent the demolition of the shop." He told me to leave and said, "I will come to the shop for breakfast tomorrow." The next day, Nevzat Avcı came to my shop. He said to me in the shop, "You have to spend a night with me in order to prevent the demolition of the shop." I said to him, "Okay, I agree." In fact, I agreed to this offer made by the person in order to provide evidence for the offer," she said. "I WAS TOLD THAT A FINE OF 180 THOUSAND LIRAS WOULD BE CANCELED"Faten E. stated that she went to Aksu Municipality the next day and had a meeting with Nevzat Avcı, recorded the meeting with her mobile phone, and went to him again the next day to take a second recording because his face was not visible. She said that these recordings were the ones that were shared on social media and in the press. Faten E. stated that, as seen in the footage, Avcı said that he would postpone the demolition decision in exchange for being with her and that he said that the fine of 180 thousand liras imposed on the shop would be canceled. She stated that she took the footage to her friend Mustafa B. and former Aksu Mayor Halil Şahin, but they couldn't meet. Faten E. said that they gave the footage to the head of the private secretary, Hasan K. She claimed that she had no knowledge of how the footage was leaked. HE DENIED THE ACCUSATIONSNevzat Avcı, on the other hand, stated that he met Faten E. when he came to Aksu Municipality to discuss the procedures regarding her business establishment and claimed that it was Faten E., not him, who requested the lifting of the demolition decision in exchange for sexual intercourse. Avcı claimed that after rejecting this offer, he made a monetary offer. He alleged that Faten E., who came back a few days later, said that she would be with him four times in exchange for lifting the demolition decision and canceling the fine of 180 thousand liras. Avcı, who claimed that the statements in the footage were conversations made to "mock" this offer, said, "I do not accept the accusations against me. I did not commit the crime of soliciting bribes. I did not obtain any benefits. I did not have a serious conversation with the woman named Faten E. I did not take her seriously," he said. The indictment, which includes voice analysis of the recordings, demands that Nevzat Avcı be tried for the crime of 'soliciting bribes' and be sentenced to up to 6 years in prison. The trial of Avcı will begin in the coming days.
