Update - Shots Fired At Opposition Party Hdp's Office İn Ankara

18.04.2015 18:18

Two people have been taken into custody at Ankara police headquarters.

Two people have been taken into custody after gunshots were fired at the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party headquarters in the Turkish capital of Ankara, security officials said Saturday.

They have been brought to the Ankara police headquarters.

The shots were fired at around 4 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) Saturday from a white vehicle, HDP lawmaker Sirri Sureyya Onder said.

No casualties were reported in the incident, Onder added.

According to the HDP lawmaker, several bullets struck the political party's insignia and flag in front of its headquarters.

"Security guards and police tried to intervene, however, the attackers managed to drive off," Onder said.

Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu condemned the attack. On his twitter account, he wrote, "I condemn the attack perpetrated against HDP. Everything is being done tp capture those who are responsible."

"It is clear that this attack, like any other previous attacks, targets our democracy and stability. I call on all the parties to take a common attitude against violence (...) anywhere in Turkey."

The HDP Central Executive Board released a statement strongly condemning the attack.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan also condemned the attack. "We will always condemn such attacks regardless of the source and its aims," Akdogan said.
