Update - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul Closes Over 100,000 Points

BIST 100 index rises some 493 points at close, USD/TRY falls to around 5.31.

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday up 0.47 percent to close at 100,141.04 points.



Opening the midweek trading at 99,737.52 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 463.93 points compared with the previous close.



Peaking at 100,488.14 points during Wednesday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 99,059.93 points, as 58 stocks on the index rose, 36 fell, and six were flat compared to the previous close.



The market value of the index was around 650 billion Turkish liras ($121.6 billion) at close, and it posted a 8.4 billion Turkish lira ($1.58 billion) daily trade volume.



By market capitalization, the BIST 100's leading companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.80 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($7.01 billion) and energy giant Tupras ($6.32 billion).



Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and defense company Aselsan recorded the highest trade volumes on Wednesday.



Shares of airline company Pegasus (PGSUS) saw the highest increase -- 8.88 percent --, while stocks of conglomerate Bera Holding (BERA) did the worst, going down 6.85 percent.



As of the daily close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.3120, down from 5.3490 at Tuesday's close.



The euro/lira exchange rate stood at 6.0360 at Wednesday's close, versus 6.0710 at the previous close.



One British pound traded for 6.9449 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.9300 at Tuesday's close.



In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold was sold for $1,285.50 at the daily close, compared with $1,284.10 at the previous close.



On Wednesday, the price of Brent oil was around $61.55 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT), in a day-range of $61.16 to $62.34. -
