Update - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul Up At Close

BIST 100 index gains over 580 points, while Turkish lira gains in value against foreign currencies.

Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 0.57 percent to close at 102,715.01 points on Friday.



Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 102,070.89 points, gaining 585.02 points from Thursday's close of 102,129.99 points.



The benchmark index hovered between 101,186.64 and 102,978.44 points during Friday's trading.



The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 669 billion Turkish liras ($126.5 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 6.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).



On the last transaction day of the week, 55 stocks on the index were on the rise, 38 were on the decline, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.



The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.5 billion) and private lender Garanti ($7.08 billion), and petrochemical company Tupras ($6.95 billion)



The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and mining company Koza Anadolu.



Shares of private lender Isbank were the top gainers -- up 3.76 percent -- and food company Tat Gida dropped the most, losing 8.29 percent.



The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.2720 at close, from Thursday's close of 5.2990.



The euro/lira rate also fell to 5.9380 at the week's close, versus 6.0030 at the previous day's close.



One British pound traded for 6.7550 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.8080 at close on Thursday.



In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,318.85 by market close, up from $1,306.15 the previous day.



The price of Brent oil was around $65.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time on Friday. -
