UPDATE- Turkey: Uzbek-Origin Terrorist Nabbed On Syrian Border

15.01.2021 12:57

Turkish border guards detain terrorist, sought with red notice, while trying to enter from Syria.

Turkish border guards on Friday nabbed an Uzbek-origin terrorist who was trying to enter the country through its southern border, according to Turkey's National Defense Ministry.

The Daesh/ISIS suspect, sought with a red notice and identified only by the initials A.R.S., tried to enter the country from the south-central Kilis province by illegal means, said the ministry in a statement.

The suspect was taken to the Kilis chief prosecutor's office.

Separately, at least two suspects, both Iraqi nationals, were arrested in the northern Bolu province as part of a probe against Daesh.

The suspects, identified only by the initials and age M.H.H.A.M. (31) and I.A.H.A.R. (46), were arrested by Turkish security units in an operation conducted at their hideouts.

They were later transferred to a local court.

Turkey was one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS as a terror group in 2013.

The country has since been attacked by Daesh/ISIS terrorists multiple times. The terror group has carried out at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks, killing 315 people and injuring hundreds more.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
