UPDATE -Turkish Stocks Close Monday Down

BIST 100 index loses over 1,000 points from Friday's close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.82.

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 1.11% to close the day at 97,324.00 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the week at 98,526.43 points. As of the daily close, it lost 1,091.34 points from Friday's close at 98,415.34.

During the trading day, the index's lowest level was 97,171.93 points and the highest was 98,526.43 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 656 billion Turkish liras ($113 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.4 billion Turkish liras ($0.92 billion).



On the first transaction day of the week, 34 stocks on the index rose, while 53 were down compared to Friday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, IS Finansal Kiralama, and private lender Garanti.

Food industry company Tukas Gida (TUKAS) was the best performer on Monday, with its shares up 8.55%, while stocks of discount supermarket chain Sok Marketler dropped the most, down 4.28%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,491.50 at the weekly close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,490.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $58.45 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT) on Monday, with a daily range hovering between $58.26 and $59.53.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53. -
