Update - Turkish Stocks Down 0.51 Pct At Close

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 0.51 percent to close at 97,955.16 points.



Opening the week at 98,627.47 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 499.71 points compared with the previous close.



During Monday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low and peak were 97,634.93 points and 99,828.65 points, respectively, as 41 stocks on the index rose, 52 fell, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.



The market value of the index was 635 billion Turkish liras ($119 billion) at close, while Monday's trade volume posted 8.23 billion Turkish liras ($1.54 billion).



The top listed companies on the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.48 billion), private lenders Garanti Bankasi ($6.98 billion) and Akbank ($6.25 billion) by market value.



Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and irons/steel producer Kardemir recorded the highest daily trading volumes on Monday.



Stocks of conglomerate Bera Holding (BERA) were the top gainers -- up 15.62 percent -- and shares of automotive manufacturer Karsan Otomotiv (KARSN) suffered the biggest drop, falling 5.23 percent.



As of the daily close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.3360, down from 5.3570 at Friday's close.



The euro/lira exchange rate stood at 6.0660 at Monday's close, compared with 6.1060 at the previous close.



One British pound traded for 6.8820 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.9450 at Friday's close.



In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold was sold for $1,279.50 at the daily close, versus $1,286.35 at the previous close.



On Monday, the price of Brent oil was around $62.85 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT), in a day-range of $62.25 to $63.13. -
