US Calls For Efforts To Strengthen Cybersecurity Of Energy Supply Chains

19.06.2024 02:12

President Biden and other G7 leaders committed to strengthening key technologies used to operate electricity, oil, natural gas systems.

The US is calling for efforts to strengthen the cybersecurity of energy supply chains worldwide, according to a statement released Tuesday by the White House.

"Energy systems around the world face continuous cyberattacks and are vulnerable to disruption," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in the statement.

"As new digital clean energy technologies are integrated, we must ensure they are cyber secure to prevent destruction or disruption in services."

Sullivan said the cybersecurity of energy supply chains is a global issue and President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders committed to taking critical action at the G7 Leaders' Summit in Apulia, Italy last week in order to strengthen the cybersecurity of the global supply chain of key technologies used to manage and operate electricity, oil and natural gas systems across the world.

"The G7 will work to establish a collective cybersecurity framework for operational technologies for both manufacturers and operators," he said.

"This builds on the White House Council on Supply Chain Resilience's work to strengthen supply chains critical to America's economic and national security."

The US Department of Energy released new Supply Chain Cybersecurity Principles on Tuesday which list the actions needed to deliver strong cybersecurity throughout the global supply chains that build energy automation and industrial control systems.

"The principles aim to create an enduring framework to drive best practices today, while informing international coordination to advance those practices into the future," said the energy department. -
