US Continues To Conduct Humanitarian Airdrops Into Gaza

24.04.2024 02:12

US Central Command says one of the bundles landed in shallow water near the shore, but it did not assess civilian harm, damage to infrastructure.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted another round of humanitarian airdrops on Tuesday into northern Gaza for civilians affected by Israel's war on the enclave.

Planes dropped approximately 30,016 Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), CENTCOM wrote on X, adding the US has dropped 1,041 tons of assistance to date.

"During today's mission, one of the bundles landed in the shallow water near shore. USCENTCOM does not assess civilian harm or damage to infrastructure at this time but continues to monitor the situation," it added.

The Pentagon said previously that safety is a "top priority" when planning the airdrops.

Israel has waged a sweeping offensive on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 which killed around 1,200 people.

At least 34,151 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and 77,000 have been injured amid mass destruction and severe shortages of necessities.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza's population into internal displacement as acute shortages of food plunge Gaza into famine.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza. -
