US Judge Oks Cohen 60-Day Extension To Report To Prison

20.02.2019 21:50

Trump's longtime personal attorney requested respite following shoulder surgery.

A federal judge in New York granted U.S. President Donald Trump's former longtime personal attorney a two-month reprieve Wednesday to report to prison.

Michael Cohen was initially to report to prison March 6, but U.S. District Judge William Pauley reportedly allowed Cohen to remain out of custody for 60 additional days until May 6.

Cohen had requested the extension following shoulder surgery that derailed testimony before the Senate intelligence committee last week.

His lawyer, Michael Monico, said in a letter to Pauley that Cohen requires "intensive post-surgical physical therapy" to recover from the medical procedure.

Monico said federal prosecutors did not object to the temporary respite to allow Cohen time to recover.

Cohen expects to testify before three separate congressional panels at the end of February, Monico wrote. -
